Phone Etiquette and fools

Heads - Fool , Foolish, Foolhardy~ 1st April ~ or 'whatever'
I hate it when my teen says that to me

The other day I was blog hopping by clicking on links and came across this one on Phone Manners and the joys of telemarketers by Red Neck Mommy.

It reminded me of my own foolish misadventure...when I was sweet sixteen and butter wouldn't melt in my mouth.

The Preface ...
We had a detached Granny flat ~where my Nana (Dad's mum) lived for 4 years . She was divorced but had remarried. My dad built it for her and she lived there for 5 yrs while nursing her 2nd husband through cancer -then after he passed away she met a new man and they got together. My parents then rented the little flat to various relatives and friends - my uncles, the neighbours' son's girlfriend, Mum's best friend and her sons. No strangers but known people.

I was home alone - well in my parents' house alone but in the backyard flat were three older boys ('keeping it clean' - though I definitely had vibes they had dirty things in their pants on their minds). They were all older about 17 -2o and their mother , B lived in the flat at the time. They stayed with her for days/weeks sometimes. 'B' was out too.

At some stage they were in the house and I was feeling a weird about their foolhardy behaviour and they were getting a little too touchy. I think I eventually asked them to go 'home'.I locked the back door behind them.I felt uneasy.I still remember it. Creepy. I wouldn't let them back in.They keep knocking and banging.

Then they started calling the house phone - they were on the other phone extension of same line . At the time you could call 1 9 9 (I think it was) and the extension or main phone would ring. They continued to bug me for a while. I confess to somewhat enjoying the game in the beginning.

After about a dozen times ... the fool in me didn't think to just leave the phone off the hook... I was getting pretty P*SSED off annoyed at them. It rang again ... I picked up the phone and screamed
said "p * s s off !"

Imagine my horror and the wet patch on the floor when my Dad's, church going, stepmother (so my step grandmother and remember poor Cinderella) said
"I beg your pardon"

What a fool I was to say it and to her of all people - I should have checked who was on the phone first.

I can't remember what happened next but there were a lot of tears ... I was so scared of her (she once rubbed soap on my teeth @ 5yrs because she thought I told a lie and my parents weren't there to stop her- I didn't lie - but that is another story).

I waited up till my parents got home and told them my foolish and sorry tale. They understood and were 'cool' about it. I really don't remember being punished -only having to apologise. They knew what the ass hats 'boys' were like.

I wished we had an answering machine !

Has this ever happened to you ?

I digress ... I hate talking to answering machines. I detest it. I sound like a gibbering fool. I even hated making the messages for our business phone too.

So being the fool that I am ... I thought this was so kewl ... a quote I nabbed from somewhere by River
I don’t have a machine, but if I did it might say,

“River’s answering machine is on holiday, this is the refrigerator speaking. If you speak slowly and clearly I will take you name and number and stick it to myself with a little magnet”.
I love it ...

Though I hate voice mail on my mobile phone too - please txt me so I don't have to pay to retrieve messages.

Your turn - what is the funniest answering machine message you have heard ?

52 blessings ...Grateful Friday

... I grateful for my Friends - today I had a play date with some friends (who I met, after my daughter died, at a pregnancy loss support group) - we have all lost babies and gone through subsequent pregnancies with little ones today from 6 months to 2 yrs ... and one lady B has three weeks to go with her surprise bundle.

The Brothers love the play centre we went to. It was lovely to cuddle a sweet little girl and have her munch on my fingers and raisin toast.

Two of my oldest (though younger than me) and dearest school friends emailed me to say they had been thinking about me and wanted to catch up - it made my day.

I am also grateful that a very precious little girl Ivy is on the mend after being very ill the last few days. I have known this baby girl since she was a line on pee stick and she melts my heart every time.

Lastly ... this joke my friend Z sent it to me - we met randomly on the Internet and she also lost her firstborn son in 2004 - we have since met in real life twice though she lives over 1000km away in Queensland. She cracks me up and we catch up on MSN quite a bit. She has a precious little girl 16 months old and is cooking another right now. She sends me wicked jokes

A little touch of family joy with a young child ...

One day my mother was out and my dad was in charge of me.

I was maybe 2 1/2 years old and had just recovered from an accident.

Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a get-well gift and it was one of my favorite toys.

Daddy was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought Daddy a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Mum came home.

My Dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' My Mum waited, and sure enough, here I come down the hall with a cup of tea for Daddy and she watches him drink it up.

Then she says, (as only a mother would know... :)

'Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water is the toilet?'

Thursday Thirteen - Brilliant Insults 101 ...

I came across this gem the other day @ Psychoprogs -
Things you would like to say at work, but can't !

It is brilliant !!!

Some of them would be useful anywhere, anytime ... you want to get your teeth kicked in ! to get your point across to some ass hat as nicely as possible without resorting to violence.

These are my favourite thirteen but because I don't work in an office at the moment ,the Brothers won't understand and my husband ignores anything rude I say I really am a nice person I won't get to use them much ...

  1. I don’t know what your problem is, but I’ll bet it’s hard to pronounce.

  2. How about never? Is never good for you?

  3. I’m really easy to get along with once you people learn to see it my way.

  4. I’ll try being nicer if you’ll try being smarter.

  5. I’m out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

  6. It sounds like English, but I can’t understand a word you’re saying.

  7. Ahhh…I see the screw-up fairy has visited us again.

  8. I have plenty of talent and vision. I just don’t give a damn.

  9. I’m already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.

  10. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.

  11. It’s a thankless job, but I’ve got a lot of Karma to burn off.

  12. Can I trade this job for what’s behind door #1?

  13. Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?

  14. Chaos, panic, and disorder — my work here is done.

  15. How do I set a laser printer to stun?

oh well I just can't help myself...you'll have to check the rest out yourself -here

Wordless Wednesday - what do you see ?

More than likely you said, 'A bird in the bush,'! and. ....... if this IS what YOU said,
then you failed to see that the word THE is repeated twice!
Sorry, look again.

You may not see it at first, but the white spaces read the word optical, the blue landscape reads the word illusion. Look again! Can you see why this painting is called an optical illusion?
What do you see here?

In black you can read the word GOOD, in white the word EVIL (inside each black letter is a white letter). It's all very physiological too, because it visualize the concept that good can't exist without evil (or the absence of good is evil). Now, what do you see?

This one is quite tricky! The word TEACH reflects as LEARN.

Last one. What do you see?

You probably read the word ME in brown, but.......
when you look through ME you will see YOU!

7 weird or random things meme

weird - "strikingly odd or unusual"
random - lacking any definite plan or order or purpose; governed by or depending on chance
I have actually been tagged several times for this meme - Widdle Shammrock @musings of a green kneecapping leprechaun , Guera-a Roaming Aussie who is coming home and Queen Mommy@talbotstotarget

I have to list 7 weird or random things about me and then tag 7 more people to do the same.

I am sorry it took me so long. It's a bit boring, nothing juicy - may as well go put the kettle on ...
  1. I have never dyed my hair - I don't even think I have even used a wash out colour.I did use spray on mousse a few times for highlights. I am only a little grey (touch wood)
  2. I discovered using the shortened version of my name with my very common marital surname xxx- at this site there are only 14 people in the US who share my name but over 5085 using Patricia xxx.

    • There are 4,555 people in the U.S. with the first name Trish.
    • Statistically the 2762nd most popular first name.
    • More than 99.9 percent of people with the first name Trish are female.

    • There are 1,635,141 people in the U.S. with the first name Patricia.
    • Statistically the 12th most popular first name.
    • 99.63 percent of people with the first name Patricia are female.

  3. My MIL shares my name Patricia (though it is technically her middle name but she uses it as her first name she usually goes by 'Pat'). What fun it was when she lived with us (yes - enough said).

She had nothing better to do...waited eagerly for the mail person so of course she got to open all mail addressed to Mrs Patricia xxx my mail first ...if there was any doubt in her mind or she was curious. So we had a few words over this !

Then there was the Dr mixing up our files, the same Gynae - so the cervical biopsy/papsmear invoice sent to me she thought was hers. Long story but she had them running around in circles saying she hadn't had a pap smear in years ( TMI -no sex in 20 years so why bother). She never even considered it was mine.Eventually they tracked me down - and I still had to pay LOL.I changed my name on several things after that to Trish.(ps is it weird my husband chose me having the same name as his mother?)

  4. My 2nd toes are longer than my big toes.
  5. I am a very anxious person and have extreme fears but I can't blog about them because I'm also paranoid and superstitious! I don't like the number 13 and yet my parents lived at NO 13 ... Mum just sold after 25 yrs.
  6. I can't touch type ... if I type fast I make lots of errors.I am very uncoordinated.
  7. I don't wear a watch and I haven't for years.

This is one of the hardest memes I have done - because I am not sure what is really weird about me - and what weird stuff I can share *gasp*. I didn't even have to narrow it down.

I had no idea who to tag but if you want to do it you can ...

A Fairy Tale - A blessing

Once upon a time ... it was another busy day that started at 7.50am when the poo hit the fan with Daddy Bear & Big bother Brother bear sleeping in.

Rush, bang ... scream, yell - ! Daddy Bear had to drive BB bear to school because of course he missed the bus.

Mummy Grizzly bear had slept in too as her little alarms haven't been sleeping so well so they were sleeping in too.

Mummy bear was busy herself as she had to go to a meeting at 10am and had things to get ready - especially the two little brother bear things and drop them off on the way at the little bear sitters. Plus she had to get the Teddy Love Club teddies ready for their special delivery.

Mummy bear was very stressed because she was running late and couldn't find the LB bear s' shoes and other important things. The house was a big mess because the little bears have been trashing and crashing everything and with one sick little bear and back and forth to the Drs, not much got done .

Thankfully, Daddy bear came back home to help Mummy bear after a frantic phone call - even though he said he couldn't - instead of going to work her ...
After another nappy last dash poop change finally she was on her way. On the way out Mummy bear said to Daddy "it looks like we have been robbed " (of course they hadn't been and even if they had they wouldn't have noticed for the big mess)

So ... the Little brother bears were dropped at Aunty Bear's house and Nanny bear was there too to look after them.

Mummy Bear went to her special meeting and did the bear delivery afterwards. Then she went back to Aunty Bear's where Nanny bear had made a lovely Ravioli for lunch. Yum! It was delicious. She was feeling a bit better.

Mummy bear decided to hang around a little longer she was putting off going home to clean up so the bear cousins could see S's new glasses.

At last she had to make tracks. When Mummy bear opened the home she could hear music playing and she immediately noticed something was different - someone had been in the house ....and

tidied up everything. She could see the table and the kitchen was clean. The cleaning fairy had even left a calling card ... a beautiful rose (from the Fairy garden - It is called a Double Delight -very appropriate)

The Little bears were so excited to see the floor again ...

They laughed as they whispered to each other "can we fix it ? ... yes we can !"

Mummy Bear was so overwhelmed - she knew it was Fairy Daddy Bear ! Of course she rang to thank him .

Though the folding hasn't been done ... Mummy Bear thinks it is the least she can do to thank Daddy tonight. He might like a nice massage too.

ETA @7pm - I forgot it was Friday ... WT heck .He even washed the floor and washed the sheets (ok only because one of the little Bear's nappy leaked because he didn't have a night nappy on)

P.S.I am so grateful for my husband - he is a dream come true no you can't have his email address. He is far too busy looking after this wench . Now, he is out mowing the lawn as I write this @7pm. Just after he dug a mass grave for the 1000 worms that drowned (*sob* about $50 worth*gasp*! Phew the stench is awful -I am grateful it is right down the backyard !)

PPS - Seriously, the fact his Mother and Elderly Aunt are coming to visit tomorrow afternoon has nothing to do with it. He really is great guy.

Are You Coming to The Ultimate Blog Party 2008

Well tomorrow (8 mins for me in Oz) is the official start of the Ultimate Blog Party over at 5 Minutes For Mom.
Everyone is going and everyone is invited! ... as long as you are a woman!

This is definitely my kind of party. I am not much of a party-goer, and who would invite me with my tag along 'twister' twins . So any event that allows me to stay at home in my Pj's or trackies with the Brothers, while hanging out with some cool new friends sounds like paradise to me !

Some days I feel like I am just cleaning up after having a party every day with all the food I eat and the mess the Brothers make with the people I get to chat to online... The best thing about this party is you can win prizes.

I am also looking forward to meeting lots of new people ... though my reader is bursting at the seams already everyday with 100 posts to read.

Be careful what you wish for ... Identical Triplets

I just have to share this
Imagine having only one embryo transferred on your IVF cycle and getting this surprise package.
Identical Triplet Boys

OMG - as much I love S & J -1: I am so glad they are not identical - because I would have certainly mixed them up (I did in the dark a few times-even the other night) and even more that there are only two of them... three I cannot imagine!

2: I confess at least twenty times every waking hour every day they drive me crazy trying to find my camera quickly to capture the many naughty or cute things they have done or are in the midst of doing ! or they have me rolling on floor laughing my @rse head off ! I don't want to bore you blog too much about the hard fun times. After all I got exactly what I wished for.

What a blessing for these parents &hearts

Menu Planning & Mother's HoT Tips

7 Mother's HoT Tips - flip a coin LOL

1.The Perfect Mother's way:
Stuff miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice-cream drips.

The Busy Mum's way: Just suck the ice-cream out of the bottom of the cone for Pete's sake. You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it anyway!!

2.The Perfect Mother's:
To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

Busy Mum's: Buy a packet of DEB (instant potato flakes) and keep it in the cupboard for up to a year.

3.The Perfect Mother's:
When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking tin, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.

Busy Mum's: Woolworth sell cakes. They even do decorated versions.

4.The Perfect Mother's:
If you accidentally over salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a potato slice.

Busy Mum's: If you over salt a dish while you are cooking, tough! Recite the working Mum's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes!"

5.The Perfect Mother's:
Wrap celery in aluminium foil when putting it in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

Busy Mum's: It could keep forever. Who eats it??

6.The Perfect Mother's:
Cure for headaches. Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Busy Mother's: Cure for headaches. Take a lime, cut it in half and drop it in a double vodka. Drink the vodka. You might still have the headache, but you won't care!

AND FINALLY, THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP..
7. Perfect Mother's:
Freeze leftover wine into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

Busy Mum's: Left over wine??? HELLO!!!????

I like the Busy Mum's headache and casserole tips best!!

My hot tip ... go and buy a bottle of South Eastern Australian Shiraz tomorrow and there won't be any left for the casserole. Cheers!!!

(ps this is not original but I adapted it to suit from an email - feel free to steal and share)

No that's not my Menu Plan ...wish they were my desserts though!

Last week we pretty much stuck to the menu plan but we did eat out one night -when the teen had a sleep over ( that saves a lot of money LOL and the Brothers had leftover Bolognaise and shared some of our dinner). Sunday~ we got Roast Beef at my Brother's house.

Tuesday : BBQ Satay Marinated Chicken Thighs in Satay Sauce and Jasmine Rice, steamed beans & peas (for J) (it was delicious)

Wednesday: Spaghetti Bolognaise one of my family's favorite meal - everyone eats this (complete with hidden grated carrots/zucchini/mushrooms and red Lentils -I am really sneaky.)

Thursday:Chicken Schnitzel, steamed potato and vegetable (plus rice side dish and peas for J - he likes peas)

Friday:Cellobella's Favourite Pasta (Toddler version leftover Bolognaise sauce)

Saturday: Takeaway Pizza ... using $4.95 coupons ??? or I might try making my own pizza dough and my own

Sunday : Roast Lamb, mint jelly & gravy , roast potatoes/pumpkin and lots of steamed vegetables .We will have a family dinner with my brother, his family and my Mother - it's our turn!

Monday :I am hoping to buy some fresh fish ...grill or crumb and shallow fry to have with oven wedges and salad.
