Imagine if ...

Picture yourself ...on an idyllic island.

See yourself on the sun-drenched and bleached white sands.

It's been raining here today. Not that I complaining we need the rain and it is filling our water tank.

Later, I plan on being a top mum because I'll let the muddy brothers out to jump in the puddles and fling some mud.

Things I know - sucking up the rain edition

I know don't often post twice in one day. I had a giveaway that just had to go live and I couldn't miss things I know. I know you don't want to miss it either -- [both my giveaway and Things I know.]

I know I only let my husband finally buy a new laptop (tonight at 5.30pm , at the Hardly Normal 40% off sale) , to ease my own guilt at spending a lot of time on my new laptop (won not bought).
When I left there at 5.19pm they told me they had 3-4 and wouldn't hold even ONE ! .... 

I don't know how when he got there 10 mins later they had sold 2 - he saw them being purchased and he got the 'floor' stock model. I know they really must be a HOT buy  @ $478. He had to buy it for our business[credit card], I needed to check the specs .

I know WHY he refused to take the feral  children because it has rained all day and they have been WILD ...but they are quiet right now playing with play dough - WHY didn't I think of this earlier I don't know. Pink snowmen and a wooly scarf.

I know my 5yr old boys already make good excuses why they can't come shopping "I've got a bad *cough* *cough* I don't want to spread my germs and make people sick".

Lucky , I know how to bribe one with promise of choosing Aldi's lollies to buy ~ artificial colour and flavour free.

I know the rain is good for the garden & grass and that the farm also got 40mm rain of yesterday so I'll suck it up and not complain.

Wordless Wednesday - Rainbow connection

Aussie Wordless Wednesday

We saw this full rainbow (almost double) [after we unbogged our car] as we headed back to our side of the farm ...sans the pot of the gold at the end it was a magical end to a sorry day.

I didn't have a lens to get the whole rainbow in one capture and it was still raining so I was mostly undercover with my camera.

I pray for the safety of those affected by floods and the strength they will need to deal with the massive cleanup.

Grateful Saturday - The rain can stop now !

It's been a tough year dealing with my husband's cancer, his surgery, radiation therapy and the multitude of apprehensive feelings that the C word brings.
That’s when I considered , all things considered we have so much to be grateful for …
It's been raining ...torrential at times this week.
It stopped Thursday, briefly.
Though sustained heavy rainfall in recent days has led to flooding that has caused significant damage to many areas.
The farm is okay we don't have crops to harvest.
We've been home to Sydney and back again.
Friday morning was clearing, though everything was soaked,muddy & slippery.
It didn't start raining till after lunch.
Torrents.

DH also came off his bike yesterday on his way to the other side of the farm to get the tractor, on the way back the tractor got bogged.

I didn't hear my phone ; I was calling him on the UHF radio but something wasn't working right so he didn't hear me nor I him.

DH hurt his right (calf) leg, shoulder & ribs. Then he had a 3km walk back home (to our side of the farm)He wasn't hurt badly, that I can see, no blood, but is very sore.

The creek at the front to the property is well under water - our only way out too.

Baring a long walk like we're going on a bear hunt ... across very soggy paddocks & mud, through neighbours & barbed wire fences to the highway to hitchhike.

I'm grateful

1. For a dry bed .
2. Electricity ...to boil my kettle & the shower.
3. Handme down clothes because Friday the Brothers went through 3-4 sets each and I appreciate all the lovely extras we have now.
4. The NSW State Emergency Service volunteers for excelling in emergency management. They are the response agency for floods, storms and tsunamis in NSW.

More than 10,000 volunteers give up their time in 228 locations throughout NSW to assist their communities during floods, storms and other emergencies.

The silver lining ... the Brothers had a ball in the puddles.
They escaped when I went to get my camera and since they were already wet (2 & 3 rd change of clothes for the day) I let them free range.

Rainy days & Mondays

It's one of those days... remember Rainy days & Mondays.

Do I feel down ?...maybe.
I am certainly anxious as we head off to a followup appointment for my husband about his cancer.
Six months ago we got the diagnosis that his tumour was malignant and would require radiation therapy.
The radiotherapy has been done & dusted. The rest is uncertain.He will have regular followup and scans for the next few years.

It just undoes me every time we go there. I can't explain it.

15 Rainy day activities

It's raining it's pouring ...I want to sing a sad song...Not really.
Rainy days as much as rain is needed can often be frustrating for toddlers & preschoolers ...not to mention their parents. The cabin fever sends 'tempers' soring with unacceptable behaviour . The kids behaviour can be extreme too :) .
So what do we do on rainy days - we organise stimulating activities (for mum) and the kids have fun too. Showing them extra attention helps guide us all into reasonable and calmer behaviours. The challenge is to have fun ...

1. Bake choc chip cookies - kids can measure/stir and press choc chips in (though hard to keep them from sampling)
   
   125gm butter
   1/2 cup castor sugar
   1/2 cup brown sugar
   1teas vanilla essence
   1 egg
   1 & 1/2 cups of self raising flour
   3/4 cup milk & white choc chips
   
   • preheat oven 160 °C
   • cream sugar & butter until fluffy & light
   • mix in egg & vanilla essence
   • stir in flour and mix well
   • add half the choc chips and mix in
   • put teaspoonfuls - or bigger onto a baking tray lined with baking paper , press more choc chips into the top and flatten them slightly, bake for 10-12 mins depending on size.
     
   • remove from oven and sit for at least 2mins :) .They might still be soft when you remove them from oven but should firm up and still be chewy, for crisper cookies cook a few mins more.
     
   Don't eat them all at once !
   
   
2. Make playdough and create .
   
3. Puzzles ... jigsaws or other , or cut and make your own from magazines.
4. Indoor cubbies using kitchen table /chairs or lounges and have an indoor picnic (use a rug pegged down by table legs to contain any crumbs)
5. Make the tall block towers (then knock them down if safe) or crazy constructions from duplo/lego or megablocks ...
   
6. Play hide n seek (if only have one child use teddies to hide and seek)
7. Threading necklaces - breakfast fruit rings (if you like 'colours') / Cheerios or plain pasta.
   
8. Stickers ...buy a few different of the small booklets of 180 and give a sheet of each design.
   
9. Trainsets or teasets ...make a huge track and then go on a pretend trip and teaset picnic.
10. Balloon volley ball .. tie a piece of string or rope ? between door handles / chairs and have the kids hit it back & forth.
11. Look at photo albums of them as a baby or videos.
12. Boxes ...boxes ...what's in a box
    
13. Indoor obstacle course with pillows to climb over / crawl under tables /chairs in/out baskets or boxes/around whatever goes.
14. Dress ups
15. Make paper boats , put on their gumboots (rainboots) and raincoats or polar fleece clothes and let them jump in puddles/float a boat and when cold & wet or you have had enough come inside for a warm bath ;).
    

I hope the people (farmers across our drought stricken land) who really need rain are getting some of it !
It also hasn't rained for a while so the accumulation of oil on the highways/freeways causes a mess when the rain comes tumbling down.
Please drive safely and slow down to being involved in 'accidents'.
People should realize that it takes longer for a car to stop on wet surfaces, and not be surprised when they crash into the car in front of them ...or worse.
