The Hunger Games ~ totally Pinworthy

So it seems totally wrong to post about running and health , after chocolate, but lets run with it anyway.

I find it challenging to run outside, on the road, due to my hearing impairment . I worry about not hearing cars approaching. I mainly stick to the treadmill. I love the treadmill workout programs I found via pinterest.

My right sided peripheral vision is impaired so I have to be careful too - not to run into low tree branches.

As well , the farm has uneven dirt tracks and it's dusty at the moment from a lack of rain .

There is a paved track to the zoo I plan to try in the coming weeks.

Last week I ran 8km in secs under an hr and I'm working up to 9-10km this week. It isn't easy but I know can do it. I've been inspired by Naomi @Seven Cherubs all the way.

The 14km City to Surf ,with Team World Vision, run is August 12th .So far I've raised $275 of my $1000 goal.

This is my training focus this week - mixing up my treadmill workouts so it feels like I am running outside.

Because it is really about the food

Manic Monday

Shh I am not supposed to be on here.
I just ducked in quickly to say packing is well underway, hopefully tomorrow we will leave.
DH changed Real Estate agents last week after another no show for the ''OPEN house" Saturday week ago. It seemed they were losing interest. DH showed two families through our house that day. The new agents seem to be more active in print advertising too.

Today we are packing amidst trying to have the house immaculate for photos after lunch.

Click link.
I have two dozen things on my TO DO list , which will become my 'TA DA' list if I manage to cross off everything.
download your own ta da list here
I need to organise a roster for our army of extended family to check in on our 18yr ; to make sure he leaves the house clean too...miracles might happen ??
The boys are so excited but have no idea I think of what we are about to embark upon ...it is only 4000km to Perth.
I am so grateful for my i devices and internet access so I won't really be any further away from you than before. I will be a lot closer to some of you though.
I been reliably told there are several iPad apps that help organise your entire life into lists, complete with a priorities rank and alarms to remind you !.
Pity is, it can't actually do the things on my list.
I usually accomplish most of the things on the list eventually , rarely have I’ve completed every item on a single list before carrying over many a few unfinished items onto a new list.
I just need to be more reasonable with the time constraints I set myself...except for today - it's imperative I get off this chair immediately ...the boss has returned.

Mountains or molehills

or making a mountain out of a molehill...whatever !

It seems lately everything is a mountain and I am struggling. My to do list is undone and my in box is overfull (as is my email and feed reader).
Lightbulbs are exploding in my head as I despair that nothing at all seems to get done despite my good ideas and best intentions.

The path in front of me seems overwhelming at times. It isn't always the big things that wear me down but the constant battles to clean, cook ,budget and maintain a happy household as well as make sure everyone's needs are met.

I was also reading a book in relation to deciding whether a child actions or behaviours or the happening things are a mountain or a molehill. It was interesting to consider and take the long view ...

Does it really matter if he wears baggy pants ?
Does it matter if he hasn't emptied the bin ? ...well no and yes one bag today and tomorrow a mounting mess.
Does it matter if leave folding the clean clothes another day or that dishes are in the sink ?

How we react or respond can also make mountains out of molehills both for ourselves and heap that attitude on our children /spouses.

A very dear friend of mine with young daughters has a very cluttered and untidy house. It also needs a good clean . She works full time and now so does her Dh ...he usually gets home 3hrs earlier but still nothing much changes. No surprise to many ;) of us supermums.

I am not bothered by their 'mess' we only get to visit a few times a year because we live a long way apart. I feel for her and I know it is not her choice. To them maybe it's all molehills. It just isn't important enough.

I know it just wouldn't work in our house , the chaos that reigns in their house would have us tearing our hair out and strips off each other. We would snip and snap constantly.

Too much mess is our house feels like a mountain and creates stress when we run late and can't find important papers, the chequebook or even the twins preschool gear. When the drawers are empty and the clean laundry is piled high waiting to be folded by the good fairies tempers flare.

I know sometimes we are masters at making molehills out of mountains.Except for some organisation the long view says getting basic things done helps minimise the mountains in our lives. Putting off 'our little molehills' soon gets out of hand and you have an impossible mountain to climb just to get to the other side...or the bright side.

I still stick to the mantra this, too shall pass .
As Regina says
  • When in doubt, just take the next small step.
  • Take a deep breath. It calms the mind
  • Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
  • If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
I found this view at Unconstrained Thinking quite contrary but it was food for though sometimes it actually works to make a mountain out of a molehill !

Chat about the chow

Over the last few weeks I haven't thought much about menu planning.Dinners have been spur of the moment, sometimes it has just been the boys and I. I haven't had much of an appetite either. I have lost 6kgs but I can't afford to lose much more.

I am once again inspired to get more organised ... the fridge and freezer needs a good sort, don't we all right now and it is next on my getting things done list. I don't mind organising the freezer but I hate the frozen hands.

I got a slow cooker aka crock pot - what a pot of crock for my birthday but I haven't had much chance to try new recipes. Pity winter is almost over, I love warm, soul food. Though this morning was the coldest day so far this year so we might yet have a cold snap.

With a hungry teen the food snacks, softdrink, milo and milk disappears faster than I can blink. D is a growing boy and so are his friends. When we have two or three teenage boys around there are no leftovers and the snacks supply gets depleted quickly.Apples or fruit don't cut it for him. He is quite handy making 2 minute noodles now and toast but not cleaning up the mess.

Monday: Slow cooker Roast Chicken, oven baked potatoes and steamed vegies (or maybe slow cooked)

Tuesday: BBQ Steak and steamed vegetables , chippolata sausages for the littles.

Wednesday:Slow cooker Spaghetti with sneaky lentil and vegetable bolognaise, garlic bread

Thursday: Chicken Surprise and rice

Friday:Leftovers ...umm if there are any

Saturday: Lamb cutlets, savory rice & vegetables (Joel especially loved Lamb cutlets the first time I gave them to him two weeks ago but with the price they are a $pecial treat)

Sunday: hoping for an invite out ;) to dinner because it is my niece's birthday .

I am hungry now just thinking about all these dinners, must be time for munching lunch !!!
It feels good to have a plan again -things have been chaotic of late. Now let us see how well I follow it.

Did you ever wonder ?

Wonder or Wander

So have you ever wondered

do you wonder how you get rid of stains like this ...
caused by climbing up on cupboards and stealing mummy's stash of this
do you wonder how do you reduce time spent on this ?
so you can spend time on you !

Well wonder no more - wander on over to Kate@ Picklebums .Kate is trying to get organised, like me, and she asked a question on Organise ‘08 - Laundry!

Then the wonderful and super organised Mommy Bee wrote this brilliant post to help us all get organised on Laundry day

Now if I can just keep my chocolate stash away from the little monkey(s)!

Don't forget to visit Skittle's for more HoT 's
