The Big Zing

As a busy mum I love to find new TV / video programs to keep my kids occupied when I need to tackle the housework or dinner. Safe in knowledge they won't tackle each other or create chaos where I've cleaned.

As much as I love to play or read with them there are times when the mundane calls me away. I can't expect my two preschoolers to sit quietly for 30mins reading or playing peacefully while I am busy.

I was excited to be given the opportunity to review ZingZilla’s, a hit new preschool production by BBC, CBeebies.

I loved that ZingZilla’s is a new concept introducing new sounds, instruments and musical ideas to my preschoolers. My four year boys were immediately captivated.

It held their attention with them toe tapping and jiving along. I enjoyed it too.

ZingZilla’s musical sensation are an engaging band of primates living on a tropical island.

Zak , Tang  , Panzee  and Drum  are the ZingZilla’s who have got everyone rockin’ and jiving to a brand new beat.

The ZingZilla's have a daily performance called "The Big Zing" which incorporates a different musical guest / instrument each episode. The songs are catchy and easy to join in with.

Each episode follows band mates Zak, Tang, Panzee, Drum and their friends through musical adventures on their island paradise.

It introduces preschoolers to a variety of musical influences from rock to samba, bluegrass to Bhangra, orchestra to soul, the Aboriginal Didgeridoo and Scottish bagpipes too.
My boys insisted on dragging out their older brother's old drums .

to join in the cast of characters too

Zak , a gorilla , the lead singer provides vocals,
while Tang, an Orangutan is the lead guitarist with amazing compositions.
"It's a hap , hap,  happy day"

Chimpanze, Panzee is the band's, bass guitarist and keyboard genius.
Our favourite was the monkey, Drum the percussionist / drummer, of course, who has always hits the right beat.

Their musical guru, sloth, DJ Loose ensures they get it all together in time for the daily Big Zing, performed with their daily guests in background. The musical guests once discovered each day by the ZingZilla’s provide the day's inspiration or theme. Everyone lends a hand.

The 'Beach byrds' harmonize and dance along, backing up the band. They are aided by the ancient ‘Moaning’ stones, with the bass lines. Todd, an accident prone mandrill,  the island's caretaker completes the colourful cast.

When the last coconut rolls ‘The Big Zing’ begins and the island pulsates.  It’s creative and lively music everyone will enjoy.

You can also see more about  ZingZilla’s at Cbeebies website www.bbcaustralia.com/cbeebies  it has fun games , songs and colouring sheets you can download for your kids.

Music sensation ZingZilla’s are expertly introducing new sounds, instruments and musical ideas from around the world to our littlies! Does your child want to be in a band? What instrument or song do they love the most?

Tune in to ZingZilla’s weekdays at 4.30pm on CBeebies - Channel 705 on FOXTEL and AUSTAR.

My son wants to play the piano, I am trying to find him a teacher that will take a four-year-old. Which reminds me, I should make some phone calls.

@Leanne - my eldest 'plays' the drums and has done for 9 yrs ...the littlest started before they could walk.
PS My mum's manfriend is an ancient drummer too - she goes to watch him play LOL.

@Tat - wow .I would loved to have learned the piano.I can play one tune ( but badly). Hope you find a piano teacher .

What a perfect DVD for your drummer boys!
My girls have just started violin lessons at school this year and 'played' at assembly for the first time today - they were so proud of themselves. I was proud to but gee I hope they improve soon! LOL

I have a major singing three-year-old diva on my hands. She sings everything, but especially HI-5 and The Fairies at the moment.
When she was about two, she used to sit up with my big guitar and try to play it, but thankfully (for my guitar at least) she now has her own pink guitar. Look out P!nk! :)

I wish I had even half their energy and could bash some instruments while watching the tv like that ;)

I'm a muso from way back (saxophone) and Map Guy is too (trumpet) so we really hope that Tricky will be musical - having shows like this will help him find his rhythm I'm sure!

As soon as I saw the title I knew what this was about! ZingZillas is big in our house - we've recorded all the episodes and Miss A loves them - her favourite and mine is the Operatic Todd one. Never thought my 17 month old would love opera, but she is mesmerised by that episode. xx

Jess - I think we had a crocodile xylophone once. Cute a future drummer !

Me & My Monkeys - they would be perfect for your monkeys :) with a blog name like that.

Naomi - they asked when they realised what the ZingZillas was about.

Kate- oh gosh how sweet ...you would have been proud for them to get up in front of people. Give them time.

Kellie - Every band needs a gorgeous singer & guitarist.
My friend's little girl had a pink plastic guitar the other week. Is your daughter's real ?

Jayne - LOL I know ...they keep me on my toes.

@Glowless - Were you in a band ?
Tricky would love it - it really gets you jiving ! It's fast and colourful too.
Tricky is bound to be musical.

Shelley - how cute is Miss A - my boys love the Digeridoo one and the air / guitar broom one with the rock band.

Both my husband and I were in a band and loved it. Now my daughter is playing the clarinet and my other daughter is soon to start learning the cello. And look at your drummer boys...GORGEOUS!

Kelly - how cool are you guys.Cello would be lovely and Clarinet too.

I always wanted to play guitar. When I was 21 , I bought a guitar and I took community college lessons for a while but let them slip once I met my hubby probably LOL.

My eldest son 17 is a drummer in a band , they have their first paid gig in 2 weeks so they are very excited.

I hope my little guys want to learn a instrument other than just drums.

My kids find it hard to choose their favourite instruments, it changes all the time. I've been brought up in a very musical household, with both parents in various bands since they were young (and still to this day, now they're both a bit old! LOL) - and I've passed my musical love on to my kids. We have every percussion instrument imaginable in our home, and my guitars and harmonicas, plus the kiddie-instruments.
I sing all the time, so we often have a little 'family jam' going on, as the kids will pick up an instrument and join in a lot of the time, particularly my 2 year old son. I love it! They love it too. Music makes the heart and mind so open to feeling and impression and intuition. Great for the soul, and for kids!

I have a friend who swears by this show (and this whole station actually)! Glad your boys love it too. xx

@Kymmie - ZingZilla's is still a huge hit.
I've since noticed a quite a few of their favourite DVD's/shows are BBC Cbeebies [Pingu but i don't like the sound up on that show :)] ...not very observant of me!

I watched a few other musical shows this week (YO gabba gabba ? is very annoying IMO)

@Suze- I think your children are very lucky to have such a musical home.

My boys loved jammin' with their older brother from under 1yr. It was a great disraction for me.

My mum's 60+ yr old partner plays the drums in a band LOL.She goes to watch him.

My 6 year old LOVES this show, he has so many episodes saved on IQ I had to get him to delete some. He has also asked for a drum set for the last 2 years but this mean mummy is too scared to buy him a set (or let santa do it), are they as noisy as I am afraid they do?

♥.Trish.♥ Drumboys said...

@Nellbe Not really - if they don't bang the cymbals/hats too much.
My eldest now almost 18yrs started with a 2nd hand drum set at 9yrs. It was only when the 'band' wanted to come here LOL.
He still plays in a band and they have a paid gig next week so he says.
At 16yr we got a new drum set.

Even the twins at 1-2 yrs got the idea quickly it sounded better not to just bang bang bang. They loved to sit and watch him practice while I cooked dinner.
