A Time to Run

No, nope , it's not about my finding a time to run. Though I really need to find my running mojo because the City to Surf is in 4weeks.

The title 'A Time to Run' caught my attention and I jumped at the chance to read and review this.

Featuring a cop-turned-victim and a chilling serial killer , A Time to Run, is a stunning, nail biting  chase through the Queensland bush.

Sammi is drugged, kidnapped, then released into the bush - chased by a madman who has made his intent clear -  he will enjoy chasing her down to kill her like he did the others. Think Milat.
He does not know she is a cop.

The investigation ,by Detective Janine Postlewaite, into her disappearance heats up in parallel. I was impressed with the apparent real life policing being played out.

Pushed to her physical and emotional limits in a race for her life and justice for the others , Sammi digs deep , determined to outwit her would-be killer. Surrendering is not an option.

The inclusion of surreal imagery is what gives Sammi hope and keeps her driven.

At times I was chilled to the bone, yet the pages kept turning and I couldn't put it down. I had to know how it would end. Surprisingly, for me I didn't cheat as I usually do and head to the last chapter half way through the book.

The book has a fast rhythm and tight pace - Friday afternoon to Monday morning - action moves swiftly,  Sammi can't catch her breath ...like when I run.

Warning ...reading it late at night may cause a lack of sleep and sleepless nights following.

I can't wait to read J.M Pearce's next book with Sammi.

I've long been a fan of the grisly Patricia Cornwell "Kay Scarpetta" novels, the master forensic sleuth. Though I never read them in the right chronological order , so it always took me a while to get my head around where she was in the time line of the series , which spans years.

Do you enjoy crime thriller ficton ?

I've read a couple of great reviews on this book and can't wait to get my hands on it.
My recent post In the Bag with Kristy from Sash and Belle
It's my favourite genre! I am currently hooked on Karen Rose books and making my way through those, this sounds awesome though! Michael Connelly is another favourite.

This sounds like a great read, I do like the crime thrillers (but hate watching them on TV!). Good luck with the City to Surf too
I used to love those Patricia Cornwell books but they went a bit funny after the first few I thought. There were a couple of weird characters who kept returning. I just downloaded 3 books onto my Kindle and also want to read Harper Lee's new one but I definitely want to read this book as I read the first chapter on her website. I was rivetted. Too many fantastic books, too little time darn it!
I'm a little scared to read it to be honest, perhaps a bit too real/close to home?
This book sounds really good and would make a great movie too. I have a policewoman friend who would be interested in it also :) #teamIBOT
I really want to read this book! I've heard such good things about it.

This book definitely has some great buzz around it, and definitely sounds like something I'd get right into.
Great review! I've read it as well and included an interview on the blog today. I love that Jay has been able to bring her insight into the book in a very practical sense!
