Wordless Wednesday ~ Essential boyhood skills

Is there still a place for tree-climbing, mud pies, home made go-karts (yes we have one too), skipping stones and wheelbarrow races ?
He ain't heavy he's my brother !

What dangerous things do you let your children do ?

Oh my, I didn't dare go up the Gloucester Tree myself!
I suppose this might be rather tame, but I let my boy go on his kick scooter himself at 2ish.

I hope there's still a place for those things Trish, because a lot of them happen around here too. Your climbing tree is incredible! x

My girls love a ride in the wheelbarrow. They had a ride in the trailer down the end of the driveway a couple of weeks ago, loved it. Both awesome trees to climb, that ladder one would have made me nervous though!

Hooray! Great photos. Comments haven't been working for me on your site on my computer lately. I'm now on the iPad and BAM! Comments! That tree looks amazing - I'd love to have a crack at climbing it!

That looks like so much fun! I am really into kids learning to take risks safely! We have a play area in the backyard that is full of stumps and an old tinny and they have so much fun getting dirty and playing pirates. I get really cranky when other mums at the playground comment on how high I let my kid climb - seriously, she is coordinated and cautious (didn't get it from me) and she can make those calls herself. Your gorgeous pics brought back so many great scouting memories for me. Thanks for hosting , Babs xoxo

Wow the boys are really brave! My little one is very cautious, and won't even go on the slide!

Amazing pics and fun. I'm a huge fan of tree-climbing, tree-houses, go-karts, building cubby-houses et al...great old-fashioned fun that might be a bit hazardous at times, but teaches resilience, (risk-assessment!), creativity plus it's such FUN! A nice counter to technology overload.. :)

Yay for wild boy activities with Dads. I believe it's really important for them to do really cool dangerous boy stuff, I just don't think it's helpful when I'm watching, because I'm too risk averse and spoil all the fun

Wow this tree is awesome! I'd let them do it if I was confident in their strength - as for wheelbarrow races - hell yes! I let my kids do pretty much anything that won't kill me, calculated risks is good for them x

I think that I am actually the daredevil in my relationship - I let the 4 year old glide on her bike or scooter down the driveway - my husband is quite a worrywort, however, so I have to do so when he isn't looking...
