The Kindest Cut ~ Pantene Beautiful Lengths .

Hair loss, though one of the 'less serious' side effects of chemotherapy , is a very big fear when diagnosed with cancer. When the first few clumps of hair shed, you are shattered. It's not just on your scalp...I lost my eyelashes, eyebrows, armpits, pubic and other body hair.

"Take heart, I can testify that hair does grow back!"
Some chemotherapy drugs and even different doses can cause anything from thinning to complete baldness.Your crowning glory is what people stare at notice most.

Maintaining a healthy body image after hair loss depends a lot on your attitude and the support of  family and friends ...plus being able to choose to wear a wig or not and afford one.

While I chose not to wear a wig, many of my friends do / did because hair loss can start two weeks after your first chemo infusion and last 6-10 months (so even after treatment finishes). Some people work through their treatment , and only feel better about their appearance wearing a wig instead of beanies , hats and scarves.
Beautiful Lengths is a program by Pantene in partnership with charity Look Good…Feel Better, designed to encourage women to cut, grow and donate 20cm of their hair to create real hair wigs for women who have lost their hair to cancer treatment, and they’re calling on Australian’s to get involved and make the kindest cut of all.
When , I was asked to spread the word about Beautiful lengths , I did it willingly because it is such a beautiful campaign.

Launching Monday 11th -17th November, is the second year of the successful Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign National Donate Your Hair Week.

This year actress ~ Zooey Deschanel , joins forces with other local Pantene ambassadors leading hairstylist, Barney Martin, and beauty expert, Zoe Foster.
They encourage people to grow their hair long and strong to donate, which will hopefully add to the 5,000 ponytails that have already been generously donated in 2012.

*Hair must also be less than 5% grey, and free from chemical treatments, hair extensions and permanent dye. A detailed list of donation requirements can be found on Beautiful Lengths website www.beautifullengths.com.au

I'm going PINK for a Purpose in Sussan Women’s Fun Run - I'm running my first HALF MARATHON   , raising funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia, if you would like to sponsor me - every $  or [$21.10] counts ;) - sponsor me here

What a lovely campaign to be involved in, shame I have my hair dyed - I think this is a great cause. x

Yes, to some women it is a very big deal emotionally and physically. Thanks Em.
Such a lovely campaign. I looked into this but apparently I have too much grey - without all the colour I put in to try and hide the grey. A little girl from here had her hair cut. Amazing to understand just how much good her hair would be doing for someone.

As you said in the blog majority of people have this fear in this mind about chemotherapy done due to the hair loss that may be caused due to radiation therapy too.
