Lego Star Wars Mandalorian™ Speeder {Giveaway}- gets kids ImaginACTIVE

Lego Star Wars ~ Giveaway

Would you lie with me and just forget the world as we count the Star Wars ?

My boys have only really played Lego Star Wars because they love the mini-figures, micro figures & game and space ships.

I think they might have watched some of the movie twice with Mr 20. We also have watched some funny YouTube stuff with Mini figures (SEE BELOW). It goes right over their heads.

I just loved Luke & Princess Leia.

It really got their imagination firing to build the impressive Mandalorian™ Speeder and unleash the hidden flick missiles on each other , shoot and fire at the Mini figures - I discourage shooting at each other.

I do encourage toys that get them away from the screen and i devices.  Not that they need much prompting , Lego is one 'toy' I will keep purchasing over all others. I love seeing the concentration on their faces, helping them create and build then picking up 211 pieces (also the magic number in this box)

Mandalorian™ Speeder $39.99
Get to the rendezvous point in the LEGO® Star Wars™ Mandalorian™ Speeder with the treacherous Sith Lord Darth Maul minifigure with weird chicken legs mechanical legs. Plot the Mandalorian takeover and take on anyone who gets in your way with hidden flick missiles, rear weapon storage and elevating cannon! Then, face off in minifigure combat with his legendary Darksaber!
Includes 3 minifigures with weapons: Clone Wars Darth Maul and 2 Mandalorian Super Commandos. They loved the hidden flick missiles under the hood, rear weapon storage and elevating gun.

• Weapons (very important when you are 7+) include a Lightsaber, Darksaber and 2 blasters.

I was going to video my boys fighting building and playing with Mandalorian™ Speeder and as I googled for ideas ...this happened !

Check out awesome Evan - he has done my job 100% better.

Yes, some people have way too much time on their hands - still it is too funny...

Right now the theme music is playing on loooop in my head now.

It's tough with my 22 month old but it's either 'they are broken' or 'they are having a sleep'. I think I have a tougher time keeping him away from the vacuum cleaner than the TV & iPad though, he just LOVES to vacuum. Go figure!

LOVE this Lego stuff. I find it hard to get them outside when I'm inside writing boring articles for newspapers, when I would give nothing more than to be out there playing on the tramp with them!! BUT I do try and (bribe) reason with them, eg let's do this and when Oliver is asleep you can play in the iPad, we also have days on and off! They probably only have 1 hour total a day on them, but still, as a child who NEVER had screens/TV and always played on the farm it still seems like a cop out - BUT then again, it's the age they are being born in to xxx

Besides books and LEGO I encourage my kids to play outside. We recently got them the dog they have been asking for (for years) and now there is not a lot (besides LEGO) that can get them to come inside.

I find the best way is to lead by example. If I pursue activities away from a screen - read a 'real' book, get out into the garden, cook up a storm in the kitchen.... I think we all benefit from time away from the electronics.
We may have sold our tv - not specifically to keep the kids off the screen but because we are moving.

Make them earn it - rather that giving pocket money for chores give them 'tech time'
For every chore completed they earn minutes to use their devices!

My girls don't own any I Phones and are only allowed half an hour of tv per evening. That probably sounds like I am strict, but its just that by the time the girls do their homework (or have a play with toys for the youngest who doesn't attend school), and we do a few activities, there isn't much time for tv.
The activites we do include:
Dictionary time - I call out a word and the girls need to look it up in their dictionary. Whoever finds it first gets a point, until a total of 10 points, etc.
Dress-ups
Themed crafts, like Bunny masks at Easter, Jack O Lanterns at Halloween, etc.
Letters - The girls write 'letters' to their friends then post them into our 'mailbox' (ice-cream container with a slit). It encourages them to write neatly and use their imaginations.
Messy Play - giving them shaving cream, slime or homemade paint keeps my two happily playing for ages. If you set it up outside clean up is a breeze with the hose and the kids enjoy washing the mess away almost as much as they did making it.
Baking, they love it. Getting so excited adding the ingredients, stirring, pouring, all of it! Especially when we make bread, kneading really amuses them too. But it's a different story when it's time to clean up! So I con them into playing outside while I clean up, then and only then will it be back to gadgets and gizmo's (if they play nicely together!).

My boy loves hanging out. My favourite way is taking him to park or shopping. But if it's raining, I will play hide and seek with him at home.
We have controls on our computers and i-devices so that we have to log the kids on if they want to play. Saves us from the sneaky times they used to spend on them when we thought they were quietly reading!

Right now in this hot weather it's all about water play. Water pistols, water balloon bombs, and the best of all slip & slide across the lawn.

WHENEVER I THINK MY BOYS NEED A BREAK AWAY FROM THEIR ELECTRONIC GADGETS, I SET UP A LITTLE TREASURE HUNT FOR THEM. OUTSIDE IF THE WEATHER IS RIGHT, AND INSIDE IF IT ISN'T. THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW LITTLE CLUES, COLLECT THINGS AND THERE'S ALWAYS A SURPRISE WAITING AT THE END. THIS TAKES UP QUITE A BIT OF THEIR TIME AND GETS THEIR BRAINS WORKING. THEY LOVE IT, AND SO DO I!!!

I bought a book that had heaps of things to do with kids during the holidays. We had hours of fun devising treasure hunts within the house, making fridge magnets. The most unusual was collecting large snails from the park and watch them effortlessly slide over razor blades. Unharmed, we let them go in the garden after : )

I take them out to the park for some fresh air and exercise!
Get out the pipe cleaners, cardboard too
Craft's always a winner when stuck for what to do!
Away from the screen, make puppets, masks and more
More than TV, it's creativity my kids adore ;)

Whenever we plan a family game night, the kids drop everything!! mobile phones, laptops are all forgotten for a couple of hours, which is so refreshing. We play monopoly, pictionary and of course we have rewards. Winners get a break from rubbish and dishes for the week!!! It gets us together as a family and its so much fun :)

A visit to my husband's family farm. Just nature, inquisitive sheep, a few horses and 500 acres of open land. Phone reception is impossible, there is no electricity and when we camp it is completely back to nature. Waking up to the sound of magpies and sheep bleating is precious. To watch the kids enjoying simple pleasures like exploring under rocks for insects, skimming rocks in the dam, and going for long walks as a family - you can't get any further away from technology and it's influences. We try to go away each school holidays for a complete 'detox' - as I call it.
Anything to do with water is fantastic in summer! The sprinkler, blow up pool, water guns, water ballonons, as long as it's water, my kids will stay out all day!

I like you on facebook and get your emails
Our son loves his iPod but more often than not it's away in its special drawer unused. IMHO, when kids are involved, engaged and have fun alternatives available, they'll nearly always choose the non-screen option: cooking, planting seeds, watering the garden or just playing outdoors, board games, puzzles, crafts, reading together, bike rides. And of course LEGO! The iPod is mainly used on trips and in waiting rooms, and for taking photos of friends.
Keep them entertained? Nah, why would I want to do that? Because in reality the children can entertain themselves beautifully when given the opportunity. Follow these few simple steps: 1. Take electronic devices off them. 2. Buy ear plugs to ignore whining. 3. Wait until they complain they are bored. 4. Offer a list of suggested jobs they can do to prevent boredom. 5. Watch them run away and make themselves scarce. 6. Have a cup of tea while they make up their own games indoors or outdoors.

In my defence, I also do stuff with my kids like play imaginary games with them, awesome art projects (thanks pinterest), play with toys (trains and lego/duplo are the favs around here) and do sensory play such as goop, playdough and water play. However, when you can get the kids to play on their own - it is such a sweet moment!
During Spring, Summer and Autumn I take them outside, give them a paint brush and a small container of water, and tell them to paint pictures on the concrete. Give them a ball and play soccer with them, Hopscotch (chalk on the concrete, which can be "painted" off with water later. In winter, we play board games, like Memory and Connect 4. Yep, I'm a grandmother, and I probably have more time than their parents to play with them, but I love it.
I get my kids into the garden. One is 2, the other 6, and they LOVE playing in the dirt and collecting pebbles and flowers in their garden pails. They'd much rather do that than play with electronics, for which I'm very thankful!
Our kids are 'builders' - they love using anything to build stuff, whether it be cardboard boxes or milk containers or just whatever they can find. And yes, the house looks like a shocking mess as a result, but at least it's creative!
