Teetotalling Non-alcoholic Shloer hamper {giveaway}

 Giveaway
I was not paid to host this amazing giveaway of a Hamper valued at $365 or to write this post, I was gifted 4 bottles of Shloer : sparkling juice drink , to review.

How sad it was I did not receive this Hamper - full of Shloer and Simon Johnson gourmet goodies worth $365 !

For health reasons I have given up drinking wine. Medically it's my choice to be a teetotaller
or not , I've had 2 x 1/2 glasses in 10 months.

I drink mostly 'under the sink filtered water' for refreshment (and copious amounts of white tea and green tea), sometimes plain soda or mineral water and a lemon wedge; rarely soft drink due to added sugar I don't need.

Shloer is made from  crisp white and aromatic red grapes, blended with the purest water to create a unique tasting sparkling juice drink. Not unlike wine produced from premium quality grapes, though it doesn't taste like the wine I prefer to drink.

As it boasts no preservatives, artificial colours, sweeteners or flavourings, Shloer is an alternative to alcohol and apparently the drink of choice for many expectant and new mums. I can't vouch for that claim.

I do know it's nice to enjoy a 'light fizz' drink of something other than water with my hubby, to unwind. I miss da' vino though Shloer doesn't really taste like wine , I can pretend.

I juice my own fruit and vegie juices but it's not the same in a wine glass..., green foamy and with floaters or cloudy beetroot red.

I enjoyed the Shloer Red Grape, chilled - with pleasant fruity flavours , though I found it a bit sweet it was refreshing. I am too used to plain water. My children liked it immensely.

The Shloer White Grape flavour was my preference. I liked it more with a little carbonated water to reduce the sweetness too.

I think I'd enjoy using Shloer more as the base for  non-alcoholic cocktails and add a zing and zestiness with other mixers.

I didn't even know it has a rich heritage stretching almost 80 years, still based on the original recipe by Professor Jules Shloer of Switzerland!

I can see myself enjoying Shloer when I want a drink I can have without the side-effects of alcohol. It's not always possible or appropriate. I like the fact that Shloer offer an alternative.

My favorite Mocktail is a Strawberry Mint Fizz. - bonus, I grow mint & strawberries are coming into season now.

2 large limes, quartered
1/2 bunch mint leaves
8 strawberries, quartered
½ cup white sugar, dissolved in ½ cup hot water
4 cups cold soda water
ice cubes

Squeeze the lime into a jug. Crush up the juiced limes, mint, strawberries and sugared water with a masher. Add the soda water & stir. Pour over ice to serve.
Me me meeeee pleeeeeeease! I am a Teetotalling Alcoholic lol (10.5 years sober) so this is perfect for me :-)
I would drink it on the front verandah of the wreck of a house in the country that my OH and I saw yesterday and are praying does not have termites!

My favourite mocktail would be a summer fruit mocktail.
You need a punnet of strawberries, 5 passionfruits, 1 litre of mango or tropical juice, an 1 litre of traditional lemonade, and some crushed ice. And of course, the most important ingredient is the little umbrella!!!
I love mocktails, even more so than your regular 34 year-old, as I am on my 'P' plates and can't drink alcoholic beverages if I am driving, so mocktails have become my new best friend of late!

Sparkling Apple cider ( the non alcoholic variety) in a tall, chilled glass always makes me feel like I'm drinking something quite nice without the affects afterwards. For me, I enjoy drinking it by candlelight with my husband :)

The non-drinking phases come and go for me as I grow my family, and I have a few favourite fruity mocktails that always hit the spot.
The first is simple - crush a few mint leaves in a cup, add soda water (or lemonade if you prefer sweet) and a handful of ice, float a lemon slice on on the top.
My other favourite sounds odd but is completely delicious! Cut a lime in half, and cut one piece into quarters (I only use a half per glass as limes can be expensive). Crush that in the bottom of a tall glass or in a small jug. Add 100ml of guava nectar and top with ginger beer and ice. It is a tangy, refreshing mouthful of flavour!
Just try it and see, wine is not the only way to enjoy a nice cold drink.
What an awesome prize thank you and well done on the 10 month stint Im impressed!
My favourite mocktail would be made from cranberry juice, lemonade, lots of crushed ice and garnished with a strawberry ... its pretty and pink, bubbles make it taste more exciting, and a garnish makes you feel a bit special.
My cranberry mocktail is best enjoyed under the patio on a hot summer afternoon watching my pup dig up my vegetable garden yet again :)

Hi! I just found your great blog while googling Shoer, researching it for a family member who has just given up alcohol for health reasons. Oh, and then I saw the Shoer / Simon Johnson Hamper! I don't have any mocktail recipes but I have a feeling I'm going to be learning a few. Hmm, I wonder if Shloer is on Pinterest?
Oh wow, they look great! I've been on a pregnancy / breastfeeding / pregnancy / breastfeeding rollercoaster now for the past 4 years. Typically I drink what I call "juice water" which is 1 part Ocean Spray Cranberry Blackcurrent juice to about 4 parts water. I also drink appletiser or grapetiser when I want to "feel" like I'm drinking alcohol, and occasionally have the odd half glass of cider or wine here and there. But my favourite is fresh watermelon juice. It's so easy to make using the stick blender. I really should get my big juicing machine out, but it's still packed away somewhere from when we moved a month or so ago...

Simple Summer Punch, which is simply equal parts orange juice, pineapple juice and lemonade, served in a tall glass. Simply delicious.
I do still enjoy wine, but usually have at least one month dry every quarter, my favourite non-alkypop drink is ginger cordial, topped with soda, ice and sliced cucumber and lemon. For a warming Melbourne winter drink mulled cider is my favourite, boiling it gently eliminates all the alcohol, and it is equally yum over ice :)
:-) Persomally, get others buying wines & Sprits for me!!
:-) Also others making cocktails.

The other day i had a mixture of coffee choc cinnamon in my drinks

Here's the recipe for my Sunrise Mocktail:

ice cubes
lime juce, freshly squeezed
600ml cold juice, such as orange & mango or tropical
100ml raspberry cordial syrup
fresh pineapple or lime to serve

Place ice cubes into glasses, pour over fruit juice and a dash of lime juice. Slowly pour over the raspberry syrup - it will sink to the base. Don't stir so it retains the look of a sunrise.
Garnish with pineapple or lime.

To decorate the glasses before serving you can dunk the rims of the glasses in lime juice, then castor sugar :)

I love Schloer! It's my 'treat' to myself when I want to pretend I'm drinking but I can't because of bub. Lol

My mocktail is Strawberry & Watermelon Lemon Delight

4 or 5 cups of watermelon
1 cup strawberries
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup water

Mix the lemon juice, water and sugar together in a blender, then add the watermelon and strawberries and blitz until smooth.

Serve in a tall glass filled with ice and some mint. Delish!
not my recipe but a summer favourite
4 pieces of watermelon sliced
6 pieces of rockmelon sliced
60ml Schweppes Lime Juice Cordial
500ml Schweppes Orange & Mango Mineral Water or maybe even Shloer now

Method

Add all ingredients and leave to infuse for 5 minutes before serving.

Garnish with a Watermelon Wedge
The best mocktail I have ever tasted I had at a hotel in Sydney about 4 years ago! It had lime, lychee, and mint in it, but a few too many ice cubes;(. With friends I tend to make pina coladas with fresh pineapple, coconut milk, shredded apple and ice cubes - but not too many!! You can also substitute mango, and you can also get away with not using fresh ingredients.
I don't drink, never have, and I would drink Scholers (and have done so) at Christmas time and other special occasions and celebrations or if I am just feeling like a special drink that is not a typical fizzy drink!
Chocolate syrup and dissolved into or cooled expresso coffee in milk frothed , poured over ice and garnished with lashings of whipped cream.
Pour choc syrup inside of a fancy glass before you add the frothed milk.
Shloer tastes wonderful simply straight from the bottle, served over ice, with strawberries and lime wedge, and is something really special. Add soda or mineral water and a little umbrella - tastes just like a refreshing cocktail perfect for anyone who wants to join in the sparkle of a celebration but without any of the alcohol.
I'm expecting my first and I miss a little Mulled wine night cap with hubby in front of the fire.
Can you warm the Shloer grape ?
Great Grandma makes a punch that is delicious and as I am usually designated driver to family events I end up drinking it by the punch bowl!!
1 bottle ginger ale
1 bottle lemonade
1 large can of fruit salad
fresh mint
ice
so easy but so yummy!!

When you want to feel spoilt or on a hot day beside the pool, this is a mocktail with a difference. And it tastes delicious:-

Half mango
Half cup plain yoghurt
50ml Schweppes Lime Juice Cordial
Pinch of cinnamon powder (for garnishing)
4 ice cubes

METHOD -
Blend all ingredients together in a blender.

But the easiest and most refreshing drink I find is Sparking Apple Cider. A great drink that looks like wine, but without the side effects and alcohol content. When you want to blend in to the crowd without getting constant remarks from people, I love my cider.
