We have visited this zoo before when the boys were 2 3/4 yrs.
Yes, it was pouring and a had to 'coax' a very reluctant DH to come with the boys & I.
It was free to visit the new open area but not the zoo. Though residents can get a discount so we will go back when it's not raining or too hot.
I discovered teenagers can become Youth Zoo volunteers at 13yrs.
We actually got to see some animals closer than our real visit to the zoo 18 months ago. They got their faces painted and painted their own boomerang.
3yr small Salt water crocodile ...they had to keep reminding the children to stand & pat from behind. They can grow to 2m+ This one was mall for age.
The boys got up close and personal with a python too (but I didn't get a pic)
We laughed watching Lemurs play in the rain on their ropes. Even animals like to play.
Then we went back to the farm to play 'animals' & roar at each other.

looks like a fun day!!!!
happy roaring guys!!
What a fabulously fun day you all had :)
That's great about the Youth volunteers, too!
it's great for the kids to get close to so many animals. My boys are still both a little nervous about holding animals.
Awesome. Nothing like a good zoo, nor one you can get up close and personal with.
My old best friend's uncle designed the Dubbo Zoo, just a random fact for you.
Great day! We are friends of the zoo and love to go early in the morning, wander around and then have a picnic lunch. Too easy. My kiddos love the meerkats and the red pandas! xxxCate
I think we enjoyed the giraffes the most at the zoo when we went about six years ago. We loved feeding them carrots.
My boys would love to hold that many animals.
This looks like a great place to visit. The face paint looks wonderful.
What a great day! We always seem to miss "Meet the Keeper" type things at animal parks, and I don't think there are any children who would not love to be patting that many animals (or get their face painted!).
We loved the Western Plains zoo though it is probably now a good 5 years since we visited! Looks like the boys had a great time :)
