The Chair - a serial killer and the truth about exercise.

Seriously ?

I watched this video by Dr Michael Mosley (also author of The Fast Diet) today and based on recent research the chair you are sitting on could be killing you.

This one is sadly no longer or I'd be in it all day !

Moving more and backing away from the chair will help you burn an extra 500 calories a day. People who sit and are sedentary are hurting their bodies.

The truth about exercise

There should never be an hour you are sitting down.

Tell me something I don't know - 3 mins of exercise a week will physiologically benefit me extensively.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) seems to have gained popularity as the best way to burn fat while holding on to muscle.

Really ? It's complicated and I'm no expert.

Tell me more ...

I'm interested in less exercise for more health benefits, especially when I'm time poor. I enjoy running , just not as much as dragon boat paddling.

Still, I run for the bone density benefits. Cancer and chemotherapy (and medications I have to take for up to 10yrs) catapulted me into menopause a few years earlier - I am at risk of osteoporosis.

Unfortunately, we all respond differently to exercise as this video shows - and some not at all. I don't know where I fit. It is worth watching  ...remember to move whilst watching it though.

At the mention of sitting , I know it motivated me to get off my bum more. Squats anyone ?

How do you exercise  ?
Do you count steps or use an activity tracker device like Fitbit, Vivo or Nike ? I love my Garmin forerunner 15 because it counts my steps and I can use it for running and tracking my paddling activity.

Remember , those with existing health problems—such as heart trouble, high blood pressure, diabetes, or obesity—or if you are age 40 or older, should check with their doctor before commencing a regular exercise program.
